Salme Kultuurikeskus

The Salme Cultural Center holds the neighborhood down with its heavy, brutalist concrete facade and rows of tall, narrow windows. It began life in nineteen sixty-five as a palace of culture for the workers of the nearby shipyard. Sailors and welders once packed the main hall for variety shows and cinema screenings. When the Soviet era ended, the building became a home for theater companies, including the Von Krahl Theater, which turned the industrial space into an unlikely hub for experimental drama.
