14 Rue du Général Gouraud

other

The house at fourteen Rue du Général Gouraud features a prominent, stepped gable that rises above the roofline like the jagged edge of a castle wall. Built during the German annexation of Alsace in the early twentieth century, the structure displays the distinct, heavy masonry and decorative flourishes common to the villas of the Contades neighborhood. Local families commissioned these homes to project status and permanence while the city underwent a massive expansion designed to redefine its identity.
