Villa Knopf

The Villa Knopf stands out with its intricate timber framing and the deep, dark wood balconies that wrap around its facade. Built in nineteen oh five for the industrialist Albert Knopf, the house served as a private residence during a time when the neighborhood was rapidly filling with luxury villas for the city's wealthy elite. Knopf hired the architect Gustave Oberthur to design a home that blended local Alsatian craftsmanship with the bold, modern aesthetics popular in Germany at the turn of the century.
