The Place du Marche aux Cochons de Lait features a distinct, triangular footprint defined by the junction of narrow medieval streets. This square served as the designated trade site for suckling pigs during the sixteenth century. A butcher named Hans Hirtz kept a stall here in fifteen forty, where he famously defied the city council by refusing to lower his prices during a food shortage. The council eventually stripped him of his license, though residents continued buying his pork in the shadows.
