Pont du Corbeau

The Pont du Corbeau spans the Ill River with three distinctive stone arches and a central pillar that breaks the water’s flow. Medieval city officials used this site to enforce justice, dunking criminals into the river inside a wooden cage. They called it the Raven Bridge, named for the executioner who supposedly kept ravens to feed on the remains of those punished below. Today, it connects the quiet streets of the city center to the denser island district, bearing heavy traffic over deep, dark water.
