Square Louise-Weiss

The Square Louise-Weiss is defined by a heavy, modern concrete staircase that cuts directly through the slope, connecting the higher streets to the water level below. It serves as a stark transition between the timber-framed history of Petite France and the industrial past of the canal. In the nineteen eighties, the city cleared an old tanner’s workshop to carve out this space, naming it for the French politician and suffragette who lived nearby. Her old house still sits quietly facing the stone steps.
