Palais des Fêtes

The Palais des Fêtes in Strasbourg features a distinct, boxy facade of white stone and dark brick that stands apart from the surrounding nineteenth-century residential buildings. Designed by architects Fritz Beblo and Robert Dannecker and opened in nineteen oh three, the hall served as a communal hub for the city’s German-speaking population during the period of annexation. It housed grand orchestral performances, including legendary appearances by Gustav Mahler, who found the acoustics precise enough to rival the finest concert halls in Europe.
