Place Gutenberg features a large bronze statue of Johannes Gutenberg standing in the center of the square. He holds a printed page in his hand, marking the spot where he lived while developing his printing press during the fourteen thirties. Before the statue arrived in eighteen forty, the square functioned as a marketplace for grains and fish. Now, cobblestones and lime trees surround the site, and the building on the corner once housed the first printing shops in the city.
