L’Atelier du Relieur sits behind a weathered wooden door, recognizable by the faded gold-leaf lettering on the window that identifies it as a bookbinder. Inside, the shop smells of damp paper, old leather, and rabbit-skin glue. For decades, this workspace has existed to repair the spines and bindings of heavy archives. Henri, who took over the space in the nineteen eighties, still uses iron tools from the nineteenth century to press leather covers until the gold filigree sets into the grain.
