Fontaine de la Mairie

The Fontaine de la Mairie sits in the center of the square, topped by a slender column that supports a bronze bust of Jean-Baptiste Boyer d'Argens. While most fountains in Aix feature elaborate stone carvings or moss-covered basins, this one remains a plain, circular stone structure. The marquis, a local philosopher and writer, stands in his formal attire looking toward the town hall. He spent his final years in the city after a long life spent in the royal courts of Prussia.
