Hôtel de Grimaldi-Régusse

The Hôtel de Grimaldi-Régusse stands out with an elaborate stone balcony supported by two carved caryatids. In seventeen hundred and thirty, the Marquis de Grimaldi-Régusse commissioned these figures, which were sculpted to resemble Atlas. Locals once called them the giant pillars of the street. The Marquis filled his home with a collection of scientific instruments, including a rare astronomical clock. He spent his final years observing the stars from the rooftop terrace while the city of Aix carried on below him.
