Paul Cezanne Statue

landmark

The bronze statue of Paul Cezanne stands at the edge of the rotunda, cast in the likeness of the painter with his backpack and easel strapped to his back. Sculptor Gabriel Sterk created this figure in two thousand six to celebrate the centenary of the artist's death. Cezanne often wandered the hills around Aix-en-Provence to capture the changing light on the landscape, and the bronze cast captures that daily labor. He holds a brush, perpetually ready to start another canvas in his hometown.
