Place d'Albertas

Place d'Albertas sits tucked away in the old town, distinguished by its curved facades and the central fountain that arrived nearly a century after the surrounding buildings. In seventeen forty-five, the wealthy Jean-Baptiste d'Albertas bought the houses here to clear a path to his private mansion. He commissioned the architect Georges Vallon to rebuild the space, creating a stage-like square. The marquis wanted a view from his windows that matched his status, so he gave the city the fountain as a finishing touch.
