Maison natale de Cezanne

The Jas de Bouffan is a large yellow manor house with a faded, peeling facade that marks it as a working estate rather than a grand palace. Paul Cezanne’s father bought this property in eighteen fifty-nine, and for forty years, it served as the artist’s primary studio. He painted the chestnut trees lining the driveway and the nearby pond countless times. When his sister later sold the estate, she left behind a house stripped of the very canvases that gave the place its fame.
