Fontaine des Neuf-Canons

The Fontaine des Neuf-Canons sits at the center of the street with water pouring from nine bronze spouts into a moss-covered stone basin. Built in seventeen fifty-six, this fountain replaced an earlier, decaying structure that had served the residents since the sixteenth century. Architect Jean-Claude Rambot designed this replacement to provide fresh drinking water for local workers and their livestock. Locals still sometimes call it the Mossy Fountain because the constant flow of mineral-rich water encourages thick, green vegetation to coat the stone sides.
