Musée du Vieil-Aix

The Musée du Vieil-Aix occupies the Hôtel Estienne de Saint-Jean, a seventeenth-century townhouse marked by a grand wrought-iron balcony and a monumental stone doorway. Inside, Marie d'Estienne de Saint-Jean donated the building in nineteen thirty-two to preserve the city’s vanishing heritage. She filled the rooms with santons, traditional Provençal costumes, and furniture that belonged to the local nobility. The collection recreates the daily life of an aristocratic Aix family, down to the original portraits still hanging in their ancestral private chambers.
