Fontaine des Bagniers

The Fontaine des Bagniers features a heavy stone basin fed by three simple iron spouts protruding from a central pillar. Built in eighteen twenty-three, it occupies the site of a much older medieval fountain once used by the city's bathers. Architect Augustin Roux designed this version to replace the crumbling original structure. Local tanners and merchants often gathered here to draw water for their daily work, leaving the fountain splashed with dyes and grime during the height of the industrial nineteenth century.
