Hôtel des Augustins

other

The stone facade of the Hôtel des Augustins features a heavy, arched doorway carved with intricate, weathered patterns that date back to the late twelfth century. This building was once the chapel for the monastery of the Grands Augustins. In seventeen eighty-six, the count of Mirabeau famously spoke from a balcony here to a crowd gathered in the street during a time of intense political unrest. Today, the space houses guest rooms, and the original stone walls remain exposed throughout the interior.
