Marché Couvert Saint-Cyprien

landmark

The Marché Couvert Saint-Cyprien stands out with its low, dark red brick facade and the heavy metal doors that mark the entrance to the oldest covered market in Toulouse. Since eighteen ninety-two, this building has served as the neighborhood kitchen, replacing the scattered street stalls that once clogged the riverbank. When the Garonne river flooded in eighteen seventy-five, it nearly erased this district, leaving residents to rebuild a permanent home for the local butchers and farmers who feed the people of Saint-Cyprien.
