The Pavillon Vendôme was established as a secluded escape for high-society figures in the late seventeenth century. It was notably purchased in sixteen ninety-seven for Françoise Moreau, a celebrated singer and dancer at the Royal Academy of Music. Her lover, Philippe de Vendôme, a prince of the blood and grand prior of France, funded elaborate renovations to transform the residence into a luxurious retreat suitable for their private meetings. He commissioned the era's finest artists, including those who worked on the royal palace at Versailles, to decorate the interior and create a sophisticated setting for the couple.
