The iron gates of the Lycée Dorian hold the initials of Alfred Dorian, a nineteenth century industrialist who donated the land for an orphanage. He intended the site to provide shelter and education for the children of workers killed in industrial accidents. Over time, the orphanage evolved into the public technical school that stands here today. Behind the gates, the courtyards still echo with the history of the neighborhood, where craft and manual labor formed the backbone of the eleventh arrondissement for generations.
