The Jardin Marianne occupies the former site of a massive textile factory that once dominated this block in the eleventh arrondissement. When the factory closed in the late twentieth century, the city replaced the industrial structure with this public green space. It is named after the national symbol of the French Republic. Today, rows of trees and a playground sit where thousands of spools of fabric were once dyed and shipped out to fashion houses across the city.
