Porte de Choisy

The Porte de Choisy stands as one of the original gates in the Thiers wall, a massive defensive fortification that encircled Paris during the mid-nineteenth century. While most of the stone ramparts were demolished after the First World War, this gateway remained, serving as a primary transit point for workers traveling from the industrial suburbs. In nineteen thirty, the city installed a statue titled The Awakening by sculptor Georges Saupique here, marking the boundary where the dense urban core meets the sprawling outer landscape.
