Fontaine Wallace de couleur verte

The Wallace Fountain is a dark green cast-iron structure featuring four caryatids holding up a dome. Richard Wallace, a wealthy British philanthropist living in Paris, paid for these fountains after the Franco-Prussian War left the city’s water supply in ruins. He wanted clean, free drinking water available to the poor during a time of extreme shortage. More than a century later, the water still flows from these fountains, and they remain connected to the original municipal system designed to sustain the city.
