Parc de Madrid

park garden

The Jardin d'Acclimatation within the Bois de Boulogne occupies the former site of the Parc de Madrid. King Francis the First commissioned a grand chateau here in fifteen twenty-eight, inspired by the royal prison in Madrid where he had been held captive. While the original palace was demolished during the French Revolution, the name survives in the local geography. Today, the area functions as a landscape of pathways and trees, rooted in a royal attempt to recreate a memory of captivity.
