Île aux Cygnes

The Île aux Cygnes is a long, narrow artificial island stretching roughly half a mile down the middle of the Seine. Built in eighteen twenty-seven to protect the port of Grenelle, the island serves as a permanent pedestrian walkway between the Bir-Hakeim and Grenelle bridges. At its western tip stands a smaller, bronze version of the Statue of Liberty, presented to the city by the American community in Paris in eighteen eighty-nine to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution.
