Église catholique Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul à Lille

The Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church sits on a sharp street corner in the Wazemmes neighborhood with a pale, limestone facade that rises abruptly against the brick row houses. Architects Giraud and Delemer finished the building in eighteen ninety-eight to serve a local population of textile workers. When the local bishop visited the site, he worried the design looked too much like a secular concert hall. He insisted the designers add a prominent spire to signal its religious purpose to the neighborhood.
