Maison des Avocats

The Maison des Avocats features a long, three-story gallery of tiered wooden balconies wrapped around an open courtyard. This building served as the meeting place for the lawyers of the sénéchaussée of Lyon during the sixteenth century. When the building faced demolition in the nineteen sixties, the local bar association fought to save the structure, eventually moving it block by block to its current location. A stray stone mason’s mark remains carved into the base of one column near the entrance.
