Cimetière de Pantin - Porte Diderot

The Cimetière de Pantin is defined by its scale and its straight, gravel paths that cut across the landscape toward the horizon. It opened in eighteen eighty-six to handle the overflow from cemeteries within Paris, becoming the largest in France by surface area. Over two hundred thousand plots occupy this space, creating a dense city of stone. Among them lies the grave of the surrealist poet Robert Desnos, who died in a concentration camp shortly after the liberation in nineteen forty-five.
