Square Montgolfier sits on the former grounds of a gas factory that powered Paris for decades. Its name honors the brothers who invented the hot air balloon, and the park features large, metallic structures that mimic the shape of ancient gasometers. In the eighteen sixties, the factory filled the neighborhood with industrial smoke and activity, but the site eventually fell into disrepair. Architects later reclaimed the iron foundations to create this public space, blending the memory of local industry with modern leisure.
