Street Art Quai Kathrine Switzer

The Quai Kathrine Switzer features a vibrant mural of a woman in stride, painted in bold, sweeping colors along the canal wall. It honors the woman who, in nineteen sixty-seven, became the first to officially register for and run the Boston Marathon. Before she entered, race officials tried to physically pull her off the course, claiming women could not handle the distance. She finished anyway, wearing bib number two hundred and sixty-one, which is now incorporated into the artwork here.
