The facade of the Hotel Zum Ritter St. Georg bristles with golden busts, intricate coats of arms, and carved stone faces peering out between the windows. Built in fifteen ninety-two by a cloth merchant named Carolus Belier, this building survived the fires that consumed nearly all of Heidelberg during the War of the Grand Alliance. While the rest of the city turned to ash, the Ritter stood, decorated with its signature sculpted image of Saint George slaying the dragon.
