The Taschenbergpalais features a mustard-yellow facade punctuated by hundreds of identical, symmetrical windows. August the Strong commissioned this palace in seventeen oh five as a gift for his mistress, Countess Cosel. It served as a residence for the Saxon royal family for generations, surviving the Seven Years War and the Napoleonic era. During the firebombing of Dresden in nineteen forty-five, the palace burned until only the outer walls remained standing. It sat as a hollow stone shell for decades before its reconstruction.
