A bronze wave curls twelve feet into the air in the middle of the street, frozen in a permanent, hollow swell. Tobias Stengel cast the sculpture in two thousand six to mark the high water level of the Elbe River during the massive flood four years earlier. It serves as a physical record of the water line that once reached this exact height. The hollow center creates a frame for the buildings on the other side, turning the street into a lens for the cityscape.
