The Staudengarten is defined by a rhythmic, sunken layout of perennial beds framed by sandstone blocks. Originally part of a royal park, it transformed in the nineteen-sixties when landscape architect Walter Womacka redesigned the space to showcase hardy, drought-resistant perennials that bloom in sequence from spring through autumn. A quiet path encircles the beds, allowing the flowers to crowd the walkways. It functions as a living laboratory for gardeners, where the planting schemes change annually while the structural masonry remains constant.
