The Stoa of Attalos stands as a long, two-story marble colonnade lining the eastern edge of the Ancient Agora. King Attalos the Second of Pergamon gifted this structure to the city of Athens in the second century before Christ. It served as a commercial marketplace where citizens bought goods and met to trade news under the cool shade of the columns. Today, the building houses the Museum of the Ancient Agora, displaying the debris of daily Athenian life unearthed from the surrounding soil.
