Fethiye Mosque Museum

The Fethiye Mosque sits near the Roman Agora, recognizable by the weathered limestone masonry of its central prayer hall and the distinct lack of a minaret. Built shortly after the Ottoman conquest of Athens in fourteen fifty-eight, the building occupied the site of a Christian church. Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror reportedly ordered its construction to mark his visit to the city. It transitioned through roles as a military bakery and storage facility before eventually becoming the exhibition space you see today.
