Stoa Spyromiliou

landmark

The Stoa Spyromiliou is a high, glass-roofed arcade cutting through the city block between Voukourestiou and Amerikis streets. It takes its name from Spyros Spyromilios, a military officer who once owned the land and fought in the Balkan Wars. During the nineteen-sixties, architect Dimitris Boukis designed this passage to link the bustling commercial streets with a quiet interior light. Inside, the original clock tower still hangs above the floor, marking time for the shoppers who pass beneath its transparent ceiling.
