Tavern Klimataria occupies a corner of a building that miraculously survived the massive nineteen forty-four bombing of the surrounding neighborhood during the Dekemvriana battles. While the streets around it were leveled, this basement tavern remained intact, preserving its thick stone walls and arched ceilings. The cellar originally served as a wine storage space for the neighborhood, eventually becoming a place where musicians gathered to play rebetiko music until the early hours. Maria, the owner, still serves food from family recipes in these same rooms.
