Bab El Onsar

The Bab El Onsar gate anchors the eastern edge of the Chefchaouen medina, marked by a heavy, horseshoe-shaped arch constructed from rough-hewn stone. It served as the primary entrance for travelers arriving from the surrounding Rif Mountains. While other gates focused on trade, this threshold opened directly onto the path to the Ras El Maa spring. Local families once gathered here to watch water carriers haul clay jars up from the stream, cooling the city before the arrival of modern pipes.
