The Hamam Meslouhi stands out for its weathered stone walls and the steam often drifting from its heavy, arched entrance. While most of Chefchaouen relies on newer plumbing, this bathhouse uses the ancient Ras El Maa spring water, channeled directly from the mountain source. In the nineteen twenties, a local merchant famously insisted on paying his tab here in hand-woven blankets, arguing that the mineral content of the water made his laundry come out brighter than any other in the Rif Mountains.
