Plaza España

The Plaza España features a central circular fountain framed by vibrant blue and white walls that climb the steep hillside of the medina. This square serves as the primary gateway where local farmers from the Rif Mountains once tethered their mules to sell produce, honey, and wool. In the nineteen twenties, Spanish administrators repurposed the space to establish a formal European-style plaza, creating a flat, paved meeting point in a city otherwise defined by narrow, winding stairways and unpredictable, steep alleys.
