The cold, clear water of Ras El Ma bubbles directly out of the mountainside, feeding the stone channels that spill into the valley below. This spring acts as the primary water source for Chefchaouen. For generations, local women have gathered at these concrete basins to wash carpets and laundry, their work rhythms setting the pace for the area. When the town first formed in fourteen seventy-one, settlers chose this exact spot because the mountain could guarantee them a constant, reliable flow of water.
