Grand Mosque of Chefchaouen

The octagonal minaret of the Grand Mosque rises above the medina, built from local stone and topped with a distinct, simple geometric pattern. This mosque stands at the heart of the city’s religious life, established in the fifteenth century by the son of the town founder, Moulay Ali Ben Moussa Ben Rached El Alami. While the rest of the city walls may shift in hue, the mosque maintains its grounded, earth-toned presence, holding a history that predates the famous blue paint of the surrounding streets.
