Weaving with Rachid

other

The shop front wears a heavy wooden door framed by intricate, hand-painted blue tiles that match the walls of the surrounding medina. Inside, Rachid sits behind a floor-to-ceiling wooden loom, his hands moving with the rhythmic clatter of a shuttle passing through woolen threads. He uses a centuries-old technique to weave traditional jellaba fabric, a skill he learned from his father in this same room. He still keeps the small, blackened iron oil lamp his grandfather used to light the loom.
