Place El Haouta

The center of Place El Haouta holds a small, octagonal fountain decorated with intricate, colorful zellij tilework. This square serves as a traditional gathering point for the residents of the medina, marking the spot where neighborhood life slows down. During the twentieth century, local women famously used this basin as a communal space for washing clothes and sharing news. The water flowing here comes from the Ras El Maa spring, channeled down from the mountains to supply this central stone structure.
