Bright skeins of wool hang from the wooden rafters of this shop, dripping indigo, saffron, and poppy red onto the stone floor. This is where the local mountain tribes bring their raw, hand-spun sheep's wool to be colored using crushed minerals and dried plant roots. The proprietor works in a rhythm set by the temperature of the vats and the patience required for the fibers to hold the pigment. He carries the stains of his trade deep into the lines of his hands.
