The blue-washed walls of Derb El Assri narrow into a shaded alley that creates a sudden stillness away from the main thoroughfares of the medina. This path earned its name from the local practice of timing daily errands around the late afternoon prayer, or asr. While visitors often capture the blue hues on camera, the walls hold layers of lime wash applied by generations of residents to keep the stone cool against the North African sun.
