Culture Square features a massive, intricate metal globe that anchors the open plaza, its surface covered in laser-cut Arabic calligraphy. Jeddah commissioned this sculpture to represent the city as a gateway for global pilgrims and travelers passing through on their way to the holy sites. While the surrounding streets bustle with traffic, this square offers a deliberate pause. The artist designed the sphere so that sunlight filters through the cutouts, casting shifting, complex shadows across the pavement throughout the day.
