Bayt Al-Sharbatly

The five-story facade of Bayt Al-Sharbatly features oversized, intricate wooden latticework windows that jut out from the coral stone walls. Built in the early twentieth century for a wealthy merchant family, the house showcases the cooling architectural techniques of old Jeddah. When the house was constructed, the Sharbatly family hosted diplomats and traders here. Today, the building houses an art gallery, but the wood carved by craftsmen decades ago still rattles in the Red Sea breeze whenever a storm rolls in.
